Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva have been laid to rest today, Saturday, after losing their lives in a tragic car accident in Spain on Thursday, July 3.

Mourners, including his wife, family, and teammates from both Liverpool and Portugal, are gathered at the funeral to bid a heartbreaking farewell to the beloved footballer.
Jota, who had just recently married his soulmate, Rute Cardoso, and celebrated victories in the Premier League and UEFA Nations League, is now gone less than two months later, leaving behind a young, heartbroken family.
Jota and his younger brother Andre Silva were buried at a church in their hometown of Gondomar, near Porto.
Rute Cardoso was overcome by emotion as she carried her husband's coffin alongside his family and friends.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and his close friend Andrew Robertson laid wreaths of flowers in a poignant tribute before the funeral service at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar catholic church.

The ceremony comes after a private wake on Friday, July 4
Dozens of footballers and coaches were in attendance. Jota's coach at Wolves, Nuno Espirito Santo, Liverpool boss Arne Slot, and Portugal boss Roberto Martinez were spotted at the service.

Liverpool players were led by Virgil van Dijk and Robertson.
"Man, I can’t believe it, I don’t wanna believe it. Absolutely devastated and in total disbelief," Van Dijk wrote on Instagram. "What a human being, what a player, but most importantly what an unbelievable family man.
"You meant so much to all of us and you always will! For your family to lose two sons, a husband and a father is just unimaginable."

The late Jota played for Pacos de Ferreira, Porto, Wolves, and Liverpool. His move to England marked a turning point in his career, where he flourished and achieved new heights.
Last season, he helped Liverpool lift their 20th English title. He played 37 games and scored nine times in all competitions. It was his goal that sealed the Premier League title for Liverpool
Andre Silva spent most of his football career in Portugal and last played for second-division side Penafiel.

Just days before his death, Jota left an emotional comment on his wife's Instagram post, which was captioned 'My dream came true.' He wrote, 'But I'm the lucky one.'
Jota and Rute Cardoso had three children together, all under four years and will have to come to terms with the death of their father in future.
