Kenyans and several prominent leaders demanded Lagat's resignation over links to the death of blogger Albert Ojwang, who died at Central Police Station.
However, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 10, Barasa called out Kenyans and leaders, blaming Lagat for Ojwang's death.
According to the UDA lawmaker, the calls for the DIG's resignation are premature and misplaced.
"The death of Albert Ojwang in police custody is disturbing and unacceptable. A swift, credible investigation must follow. However, calls for DIG Eliud Lagat’s resignation are misplaced; he isn’t the OCS or involved in ground operations," Barasa said.
According to Didmus, the main responsibility for Ojwang's death lies with the officers on duty and the OCS at the Central Police Station.
"The real responsibility lies with the officers on duty and the OCS at Central Police Station. The OCS should resume duty, initiate internal charges against those on shift, and hand them over to DCI for prosecution," he stated.
While sharing his condolence message, the Kimilili lawmaker asked Kenyans to avoid theatrics amid the push for justice.
"We need clarity, not theatrics. Resolution must be guided by facts and due process. Let's seek the truth while safeguarding the integrity of our institutions. To the family and friends of Albert Ojwang, we extend our deepest condolences. May you find strength and peace during this difficult time," he added.
