Death of Edo Pilgrim in Saudi Arabia for Hajj

A deeply unfortunate event has occurred during the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, as Mrs. Adizatu Dazumi, a 75-year-old female pilgrim from Edo State, Nigeria, has passed away. The sad news confirmed her death on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the King Fahad General Hospital located in the holy city of Makkah. Mrs. Dazumi, who was observing the sacred Islamic rites, succumbed to a brief illness. She was a native of Jattu Uzairue, a community within the Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
Details surrounding her illness were provided by Malam Musah Uduimoh, the Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board. He explained that Mrs. Dazumi's health deteriorated shortly after she had completed the Tawaaf, an essential Hajj ritual involving the circumambulation of the Kaaba. Following this, she was promptly admitted to the King Fahad General Hospital on Sunday, May 25, 2025. Despite the medical attention she received, she sadly passed away the subsequent day.
The official confirmation of Mrs. Dazumi's passing was issued by Malam Musah Uduimoh on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. In his statement, he elaborated that, adhering strictly to Islamic traditions and rites, Mrs. Dazumi was laid to rest in Makkah on the very same day she died. He also confirmed that her family residing in Jattu Uzairue had been formally notified of this sorrowful development.
On behalf of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Malam Uduimoh extended his profound and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Mrs. Dazumi. Furthermore, he took the opportunity to reassure all other pilgrims from Edo State currently participating in the Hajj. He affirmed the board's unwavering commitment and continued vigilance in actively safeguarding their health, safety, and overall welfare during their stay in Saudi Arabia. It is noteworthy that Mrs. Dazumi was part of a contingent of 206 pilgrims from Edo State who were airlifted for the 2025 Hajj exercise on May 15, 2025. Her demise has reportedly cast a somber mood and evoked feelings of mourning among many Nigerians.
