Darrion Williams Makes Decision on 2025 NBA Draft, Future in College Basketball
After testing the NBA Draft waters, former Texas Tech forward Darrion Williams has officially withdrawn his name from the 2025 Draft, according to a report from Jon Rothstein at CBS Sports.
Williams entered the transfer portal alongside his announcement to test the draft process, and now that he’s officially headed back to college for 2025-26, he’s one of the hottest transfer names on the market.
In his first year under Grant McCasland, Williams averaged a career-high 15.1 points to go along with 5.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, earning him All-Big 12 First-Team honors in 2024-25.
Williams, alongside reigning Big 12 Player of the Year JT Toppin, played an integral part in the Red Raiders’ fantastic season, which ended with a 28-9 overall record and a narrow loss to Florida in the Elite Eight.
While BYU was initially expected to play a heavy factor in his portal recruitment, it actually turns out that Williams might be headed to another Big 12 program next season, according to Jeff Goodman.
Coinciding with Rothstein’s report, Goodman states that the two leaders to land Williams services, at least at this point, are Kansas and NC State.

There’s also the possibility that he returns to Lubbock to run it back for Grant McCasland, but there doesn’t seem to be a ton of momentum for that at this time.
Whereever Williams ends up, one of the top forwards from the 2024-25 season is back for another year of college basketball, and somebody is going to get a major late addition to their transfer portal class.
