The McKendree men’s basketball program announced the resignation of assistant coach Hank Mathews. The Peoria, Ill. native has accepted the head coaching position at Collinsville (Ill.) High School.
Filled in rich tradition, the Collinsville Kahoks have collected more than 2,220 wins in their history, good for second most all-time in the state of Illinois.
“Hank has been a tremendous asset to our program over the last three years. His work ethic, passion for the game, and genuine care for our student athletes helped us reach success our program had yet to achieve,” said head coach George Suggs. “I am certain his future at Collinsville is bright, and that community is fortunate to have Hank leading their young men.”
Coach Mathews joined the Bearcats prior to the 2022-23 season. In his first year as the lead assistant for Coach Suggs, the Bearcats won their first GLVC title and made a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. Over his three seasons on the Bearcat bench, Mathews helped the program to 49 wins.
Head coach George Suggs on the season for his next assistant coach, “we will begin an immediate search for an assistant coach who will continue drive our program forward with passion and energy, as well as be an exemplary role model for our student-athletes.”
