MOTION GRAPHIC SHOWING AREAS OF EXPLOSIONS, MASSIVE FIRES REPORTED AT PORT SUDAN'S SOUTHERN PORT AND AIRPORTPORT SUDAN, SUDAN - MAY 6, 2025: Explosions and fires were reported early Tuesday at the Southern Port in Port Sudan, the country’s de facto administrative capital. According to local sources, a series of loud explosions were heard in the area, followed by fires breaking out at the port. Preliminary assessments suggest the fires may have been caused by an attack on a fuel depot. The Southern Port had recently received humanitarian aid from the Türkiye-based Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), and the supplies were reportedly stored at the site at the time of the incident. In a separate development, local media reported that Port Sudan International Airport also came under attack. All flight operations have been suspended. No casualties have been confirmed, and Sudanese authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding either incident. Port Sudan has served as Sudan’s administrative center since April 2023, when fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) forced the government to relocate from the capital, Khartoum.
