India's active Covid-19 caseload has climbed to 2,710, with 1,170 recoveries, according to the Union Health Ministry. The country reported seven new Covid-related deaths across various states, with comorbidities playing a significant role in most of the cases.

Union Minister of State for Health and AYUSH (Independent Charge) Prataprao Jadhav on Friday assured that the Centre is fully prepared to handle any eventuality and is closely monitoring the evolving situation with state governments.

A 60-year-old woman in Delhi died due to acute intestinal obstruction following a laparotomy. Covid-19 was found incidentally and did not contribute to the cause of death, the Health Ministry noted.

Gujarat recorded one death linked to Covid-19. However, details regarding the patient’s age, comorbidities, and cause of death are still awaited.

Karnataka reported the death of a 70-year-old male patient with acute cardiorespiratory arrest, severe anaemia, encephalopathy with seizures, and multiple comorbidities including diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension (HTN), and ischemic heart disease (IHD). His Covid-19 status is pending RT-PCR confirmation.

Maharashtra recorded two deaths. The first was a 67-year-old male with Covid-positive RT-PCR results, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), left lung pneumonia, and comorbidities like DM, HTN, and a cerebrovascular accident (CVA).

The second was a 21-year-old male suffering from diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI). One death was also reconciled retrospectively.

A 39-year-old male in Punjab with a history of Hepatitis B succumbed to acute respiratory syndrome. His death has been linked to Covid-19 complications.

Tamil Nadu reported one Covid-linked death—a 60-year-old male with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), hypertension, and chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Kerala continues to lead the country with 1,147 active Covid-19 cases. The state is currently reconciling its mortality data and continues to remain under close observation.

Patna has reported seven fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, sparking concerns of a potential resurgence. Among those infected is a medical intern at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH), according to an IANS report.  Three cases were found at NMCH and four via private labs. The virus has spread to areas like Kankarbagh, Agamkuan, and RPS Mor. Patna now has 17 active cases, including five at AIIMS and six each at NMCH and private facilities. In response, the Bihar Health Department will conduct an oxygen mock drill on Saturday to assess emergency readiness.

Union MoS Health Prataprao Jadhav said, “We’ve reviewed the infrastructure built during earlier Covid waves—such as oxygen plants and ICU beds—and have begun preparations accordingly.”He added that both the Health and AYUSH Ministries are alert and have coordinated with state health secretaries to ensure readiness.

“Our systems are well-equipped and we’re prepared to respond to any Covid-related situation,” Jadhav told ANI.
