COVID-19 update for June 6, 2025: Active cases climb to 5,364 with 498 new infections and 4 deaths in 24 hours. Read ahead to find out what you need to know today.

On 6 June, Kerala reported the highest active caseload at 1,679, followed by West Bengal (596), Delhi (592), and Maharashtra (548). On the other hand, states like Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Tripura reported zero or minimal active cases.

Among the deaths, comorbidities played a key role. One of the reported deaths in Karnataka was a 65-year-old man. He had severe diabetes, high blood pressure and had an Incidental Covid-19 Positive status. Similarly, the two deaths in Kerala involved patients with multiple health complications, as per the official data.

The 4 new deaths are a sad reminder that COVID-19 can still be dangerous. It is especially for older adults and people with health problems. Hospitals are prepared, and doctors say most cases are mild, but they warn that the situation can change quickly.

Some states are seeing more cases than others. While the central government has not released a full state-wise breakdown this morning, early reports suggest that urban areas and a few states in the south and west are seeing higher numbers. Local health departments are increasing testing and contact tracing.

It’s true: the pandemic no longer looks like it did in 2020 or 2021. The fear has lessened. Many now think of COVID-19 as “just another virus.” But data from the Health Ministry still shows a steady stream of new infections. Importantly, the elderly and those with health issues remain vulnerable.

The latest numbers show that COVID-19 is not yet behind us. The active case count has gone up to 5,364. This means more people are currently fighting the virus compared to last week. Health officials are watching these numbers closely. They are urging everyone to stay careful, especially in crowded places.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently released a report on COVID-19 trends in 2025. The study found that while global cases have dropped since the peak in 2021, many countries are still seeing small waves of infection. The WHO warns that new variants can still appear and that vaccination, mask-wearing, and good hygiene are key to keeping the virus under control.

According to the WHO, countries that keep up with booster shots and public health measures have fewer hospitalisations and deaths. The report also says that people should stay home if they feel sick and get tested for COVID-19 if they have symptoms.

Here are some simple steps to protect yourself and others:

  • Stay home if you feel unwell and get tested

The rise in COVID-19 cases is a reminder that the pandemic is not over. It’s normal to feel tired of hearing about COVID-19, especially after so many years. But these new numbers show that the virus is still part of our lives. Many of us are eager to move on, but a little care now can protect our loved ones, especially those who are older or have health problems. If you are facing any of the symptoms, it is always advised to get a checkup.
