Corruption commission boss faces arrest

PNG’s anti-corruption commission is in serious strife as its three expatriate commissioners have fallen out against each other over allegations of abuse of office, official corruption, misappropriation and manipulation of a legal document into ICACs Regulations.

This has resulted in an arrest warrant currently in play for the arrest of Independent Commission Against Corruption Commissioner (ICAC) Andrew Forbes, an Australian lawyer who was appointed as head of the Commission.

Commissioners Daniel Baulch and Graham Gill, both with police detective background, are also under investigation.

The warrant for Commissioner Forbes comes after a top-secret investigation codenamed “Operation North” initiated in August 2024 into allegations of abuse of office, official corruption, misappropriation and manipulation of a legal document into ICACs Regulations.

The investigation was completed however the arrest warrant issued by the PNG Principal Magistrate in November 2024 is yet to be executed. Now it has been reactivated with Prime Minister James Marape kept abreast of the investigations.
