Colourful upcycled horticultural displays take centre stage at Changi Airport this June holidays
Changi Airport presents a series of vibrant garden displays made from repurposed and locally sourced materials. The installations draw inspiration from classic children’s toys, storybooks and garden-themed playsets. Visitors will encounter endearing motifs which comprise of a teddy bear, train, ladybug and flowerpot.

From now to 30 June, visitors can explore these imaginative installations, featuring unique designs that highlight the beauty of recycling and the importance of environmental responsibility.
Spanning across all four terminals, the displays are crafted using approximately 100 square metres of upcycled textiles, which is roughly the size of a 4-room HDB flat. The displays also use other repurposed materials such as foam, metal parts, and wood, all locally sourced to minimise environmental impact.

One highlight is the vibrant patchwork ladybug installation located in Terminal 4. Constructed from layered panels and wrapped in a colourful upcycled fabric, the ladybug rests on stylised fabric foliage and is surrounded by a cascade of blooming flowers.
Designed to evoke a sense of wonder and nostalgia, these playful elements create engaging, family-friendly experiences. Each installation tells a different visual story while maintaining a theme of whimsy and childlike imagination.

Beyond their visual appeal, the displays promote a deeper meaning about being creative with how we reuse items and environmental responsibility. Textile waste is a contributor to global pollution, with synthetic fabrics taking hundreds of years to break down. These installations demonstrate how discarded materials can be given new life through design and craftmanship.

Complementing the repurposed elements are live plants nurtured at Changi Airport’s own nursery, many of which are reused from past events, such as the potted roses in the garden displays, which were originally part of the Valentine’s Day exhibit in February. Most of the plants featured in the displays are cultivated specifically for exhibitions and are returned to the nursery for recovery after each event. Carefully nurtured to bloom again by the horticulture team, it highlights Changi Airport’s sustained commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible reuse.
