Coalition lacks credible people to challenge Tinubu, says Umahi
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, on Sunday, said that there are no credible persons in the coalition that can challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027, saying that Tinubu has delivered quality representation to Nigerians.
Umahi, who stated this in Abakaliki when he celebrated with the Muslim community on 2025 Sallah celebration, made it clear that the President will win the 2027 presidential election. He urged the South-East to support Tinubu, crediting the President for reversing years of federal neglect in the region.
Umahi maintained that before now, many South-East states had no federal projects. But today, according to him, the federal presence is visible across the region, noting that this is true national integration.
He applauded the President for appointing South-East natives to top positions, including himself as Minister of Works, the Chief of Naval Staff, and the Minister of Science and Technology, describing them as meaningful steps toward reintegrating the region into national governance.
“We lost political ground in the past, but this government is bringing us back. It’s not yet perfect, but we are no longer left behind. We must acknowledge that and support the President,” Umahi noted.
He called on the people of the Southeast to reject divisive narratives and focus on constructive engagement with the federal government. Umahi has also said that he doesn’t have any regret supporting Muslim-Muslim presidential and Vice-Presidential tickets in 2023, as it has paid off.
He said that many people rejected the presidential tickets of Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, noting that the most important thing is the dividends of democracy, which, he said, were visible across the country.
The minister said that the relationship between the two major religions is more cordial under Tinubu’s administration than before, saying that Christians and Muslims serve the same God but in different ways.
He noted that the administration of Tinubu has favoured more Christians than Muslims in the country, stressing that Tinubu’s appointment is 62 per cent for Christians while the Muslims have 38 per cent.
