Chobani Invests $1.2 Billion in New York Plant

Chobani is expanding its operations with a new $1.2 billion, state-of-the-art plant in Rome, New York, located in the Mohawk Valley. This follows a recent announcement of a $500 million expansion in Twin Falls, Idaho. The Rome facility, situated on a 150-acre site that was formerly the Griffiss Air Force Base, is projected to create over 1,000 full-time jobs and significantly increase Chobani's production capacity.
Founder and CEO of Chobani, Hamdi Ulukaya, emphasized the importance of New York to the company's history and future. He highlighted the partnerships with local dairy farmers and the community as key to Chobani's success, stating that the new plant will help build an ecosystem of natural food production.
Governor Hochul underscored the significance of this investment for Upstate New York's manufacturing sector, noting the creation of numerous jobs in Oneida County. The project is described as the largest natural food manufacturing investment in American history, aligning with the state's goal of being worker- and business-friendly.
The Rome plant is designed to produce over one billion pounds of high-quality dairy products annually, utilizing approximately 12 million pounds of milk per day across 28 production lines. This expansion will increase Chobani's raw milk purchases from New York State dairy farms to an estimated 6 billion pounds per year, further strengthening the state's dairy industry.
Chobani aims to foster an ecosystem of food innovation in the Mohawk Valley through partnerships with local farmers, businesses, colleges, universities, government leaders, entrepreneurs, and community organizations. This collaborative approach seeks to drive new ideas, train a skilled workforce, and stimulate economic opportunities throughout the region.
Chobani, founded in 2005, is committed to making nutritious food accessible and improving communities.
