Charles Barkley Had Two Words for Celtics' Questionable Approach in Loss to Knicks

The Boston Celtics launched 3-pointer after 3-pointer in Monday's Game 1 against the New York Knicks.

When it was over, the Celtics had missed an NBA playoff-record 45 threes, blown a 20-point lead, and watched the Knicks fight their way to a win and a 1-0 series lead.

After the game, TNT commentator Charles Barkley shared his amazement after learning that the Celtics took 20 total shots in the third quarter and 19 of them were from behind the 3-point arc.

"That's crazy," Barkley said.

Celtics guard Jaylen Brown explained after the game that the Knicks were giving them the perimeter, but Boston's shooters just couldn't connect.

“Orlando kind of took the 3-point line away. I felt like tonight, (the Knicks) were kind of daring us to shoot,” Brown said, via the Boston Herald. “They wanted us to shoot those shots. And we didn’t make them tonight. But I felt like we had a ton of good looks. Some maybe we forced up and settled, for sure. We’ll look at those and be better at those. But that’s an abnormal game for us in terms of shooting the basketball.”

Brown added that the Celtics needed to change their approach when they saw the 3-pointers weren't falling, instead working to get inside for points.

Barkley went on to say that Boston's failed approach -- and their refusal to go away from it even it when it was clear the team was collectively cold -- is a sign of a bigger problem across the NBA.

"That's one thing I don't like about the NBA game today," he said. "Nobody has a plan B."
