Celebrating 34 Years of STPI: Pioneering India's Digital Economy and IT Innovation, ET Government
From its humble beginnings with three centers, STPI now operates 67 facilities across the country, including 59 in Tier-II and Tier-III cities.

New Delhi, June 5, 2025 — The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), a key institution under the Ministry of Electronics and IT, celebrated its 34th Foundation Day on Thursday, June 5, highlighting over three decades of transformative contributions to India's IT and startup landscape.
Established in 1991, STPI has evolved from facilitating software exports to becoming a cornerstone of India’s digital economy. From its humble beginnings with three centers, STPI now operates 67 facilities across the country, including 59 in Tier-II and Tier-III cities. These centers have played a vital role in decentralising the IT industry and enabling inclusive tech-led growth.
Speaking on the occasion, STPI Director General Arvind Kumar remarked, “Today is a proud moment for STPI. From a fledgling organisation, we’ve grown into an innovation driver, supporting exports worth over ₹10 lakh crore in FY 2024–25 and empowering over 1,400 startups through our Centers of Entrepreneurship and incubation schemes.”
Under initiatives like the Next Generation Incubation Scheme (NGIS) and 24 domain-specific Centers of Entrepreneurship (CoEs), STPI has helped develop more than 2,200 tech products and facilitated over 1,000 intellectual property filings. Notably, 44% of the startups supported by STPI are led by women entrepreneurs, many hailing from smaller towns.
STPI’s contributions include 17 lakh sq. ft. of workspace, five Tier-3 data centers, and multiple innovation platforms. Among them is SAYUJ, India’s exclusive startup community network, connecting startups with mentors, investors, and ecosystem partners. Another flagship offering is Ananta, a sovereign cloud platform delivering advanced IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and GPU-based services.
The organisation also offers services such as Vulnerability Assessment & Penetration Testing (VAPT), supporting both private industry and government agencies in building secure digital infrastructure.
“STPI remains deeply committed to the vision of a tech-powered and self-reliant Bharat,” Kumar added, reaffirming the institution’s mission to build a robust software product ecosystem and drive India’s digital transformation.
