The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a landmark increase in the prize money for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2024, doubling the winner’s purse to USD 1 million and raising the total prize money by 45%. This significant boost reflects CAF’s ongoing commitment to advancing women’s football across the continent ahead of the tournament kicking off on July 5, 2025.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe emphasized the importance of this financial increase, stating that it will help improve salaries for women football players, coaches, and staff. He highlighted the steady rise in the quality and global competitiveness of African women’s football, expressing optimism about the tournament’s growing fanbase, broadcasting reach and sponsorship interest. “This Competition is going to be enormously successful,” Motsepe said.

The prize money breakdown for the tournament is as follows: the winner will receive USD 1 million, the runner-up USD 500,000, third place USD 350,000, and fourth place USD 300,000. Quarter-finalists will each earn USD 200,000, while teams finishing third and fourth in their groups will receive USD 150,000 and USD 125,000 respectively. The total prize fund for the competition now stands at USD 3.475 million, a substantial increase from previous editions.

This financial uplift comes as the tournament prepares to showcase some of Africa’s strongest women’s national teams, including defending champions South Africa, nine-time winners Nigeria, and hosts Morocco. The increased prize money is expected to further professionalize the sport on the continent, encouraging investment and development at all levels of women’s football.
