Buckle up, We've Got a New Book
Still reeling from the revelations in “Original Sin” – namely that Bidenworld covered up his cognitive decline and was complicit in his disastrous decision to run again – Democrats were enjoying one of the first weeks that’s NOT been dominated by bad Biden news and tales of Dem dysfunction.
I talk to a lot of Democrats, and believe me when I tell you, they are desperate to move past Biden. That’s hard when news from Bidenworld keeps popping up, and none of it good.
This week, with the departure of Elon Musk, the trouble surrounding Trump’s Big, Beautiful Bill, and more tariff shenanigans, they finally seemed to be getting some distance.
Jean-Pierre’s announcement was a one-two gut punch to Dems – she’s leaving the party that defined her for so long, through both the Obama and Biden administrations to become an independent, AND she wrote a book seemingly exposing that same party and those same people in hopes that others will “carve a political space more loyal to personal beliefs than a party affiliation.” OUCH.
Here was part of her statement today:
“Until January 20, I was responsible for speaking on behalf of the President of the United States. At noon on that day, I became a private citizen who, like all Americans and many of our allies around the world, had to contend with what was to come next for our country. I determined that the danger we face as a country requires freeing ourselves of boxes. We need to be willing to exercise the ability to think creatively and plan strategically.”
And here’s the Amazon description of the book:
In a country obsessed with blind loyalty to a two-party democratic system, Karine Jean-Pierre, former White House press secretary to the Biden-Harris administration, shares why Americans must step beyond party lines to embrace life as Independents.
Jean-Pierre didn’t come to her decision to be an Independent lightly. She has served two American presidents, Obama and Biden. In 2020, she joined Biden’s campaign as a senior adviser, becoming Harris’s chief of staff and then, two years later, White House press secretary. She takes us through the three weeks that led to Biden’s abandoning his bid for a second term and the betrayal by the Democratic Party that led to his decision.
In an urgent, timely analysis, Independent urges all Americans to vote their values and maintain individuality within party lines. She presents clear arguments and provocative evidence as an insider about the importance of dismantling the torrent of disinformation and misinformation that has been rampant in recent elections and provides passionate insight for moving forward.
In a hard-hitting yet hopeful critique, Jean-Pierre defines what it means to be part of the growing percentage of our fractured electorate that is Independent, why it can be worthwhile to carve a political space more loyal to personal beliefs than a party affiliation, and what questions you need to ask yourself to determine where you fit politically. As a history maker, veteran public servant, political analyst and independent thinker, she urges Americans to think outside of the blue-and-red box as we consider what’s next to save our democracy.
And, it doesn’t look like she made too many friends in the press while at the White House.
Just look at these opening paragraphs from Politico today:
“Karine Jean-Pierre’s announcement that she’s leaving the Democratic Party — timed with the rollout of a new book — has detonated among her former White House colleagues about Jean-Pierre’s while serving as then-President Joe Biden’s press secretary.
The lit up Democratic and Biden alumni texting groups and reignited frustrations that burned for years about Jean-Pierre, according to seven former Biden administration officials granted anonymity to describe private conversations.”
Here’s more from Politico:
“As Biden’s press secretary, and routinely offered material for the Republican Party’s main account on X. while leaving the hands-on management of media relations and the White House press shop to other aides.”
You don’t have to read between the lines too hard to see what this Politico reporter, at least, and seven – that’s right – SEVEN former Biden administration officials think of Jean-Pierre. To have seven sources come out on the SAME DAY the book was announced tells you people have some, er, feelings about Karine.
One former official: “Everyone thinks this is a grift.”
A former staffer: “She made a joke about being an independent last year and now it’s a book. All ideas are monetary — even the dumb ones.”
A Dem operative who worked with her before the White House called the book/party departure “the most grift-y thing I’ve seen in a long time, and that’s saying something in Washington.”
A former Biden White House official: “SHE was the public face telling us all that this White House was on track and that Biden was amazing. And now she doesn’t even want to be a Democrat????”
Per several other officials, Karine was reportedly hoping to get a co-host slot on The View (don’t get me started there), and when she didn’t likely decided to write the book.
Jeremy Edwards, who worked in Jean-Pierre’s press shop, simply posted “lol” in response to the news.
Now, projects like this aren’t new or all that groundbreaking. Plenty of former White House faces have gone on to write books about their experiences, and even turn on their former bosses and party.
As an aside, just look at where Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds find themselves today – they made big, splashy accusations against a much lesser-known talent, and are realizing the hard way that they don’t have as many friends in the business as they thought they did. In fact, people really hate them it seems. Their case is crumbling, their reputations are in shreds.
I suppose it’s possible all of this is bluster around the book in order to discredit it and – yet again – push past Biden. But something tells me, this news would be met very differently by Bidenworld AND the media if Jean-Pierre were well-liked and well-respected.
Either way, here we go AGAIN. And honestly, I don’t envy the spot Democrats are in today. The hits just keep on coming.
