Bryan Acheampong pledges full funding for Adum Market rebuild, pending Otumfuo's approval
Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong during a visit to the market
The Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, has committed to personally finance the rebuilding of the Adum BlueLight section of Kumasi’s Central Business District, which was devastated by a fire on March 21, 2025.
The pledge is subject to approval from the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Kumasi city authorities.
During a visit to the affected market, the former Minister of Food and Agriculture, donated GH¢300,000 to support traders who suffered significant losses in the blaze.
The fire destroyed numerous shops, leaving many traders struggling to resume their businesses.
Bryan Acheampong noted that some traders have begun erecting temporary structures to continue operations, but he described these as weak and unstable.
According to the MP, he plans to consult with the Asantehene, currently out of the country, as well as the Ashanti Regional Minister and local authorities to secure permission for the reconstruction project.
“Coming here today, you will see that they have started building, but the structures are very weak.
“I want to engage the Otumfuo, and if he permits, and the assembly permits, we want to rebuild this structure for them in 12 months. We will put in very strong infrastructure, clean the front, and put up stores so traders can have some normalcy to their lives,” he added.
