Brothers Rockaway

Published 1 week ago2 minute read

For just a little window on the boardwalk, Brothers has a lot of personality. There’s a painting with butterflies and fried eggs, dolphin-shaped vases next to where you order, and a sign that reads, “breakfast is now!” The food differs from your classic boardwalk burger and fries. Think compelling salads, and a crackly, open-faced kimchi grilled cheese. Also, smoothies—very intricate smoothies.

Bring someone vegan here, or a person who would like to imagine they’re at an eco beach club off the coast of Bali, rather than on the New York City shores. Brothers Rockaway shares a kitchen with Caracas Arepa, but instead of choosing between the two, hit both at once. Grab drinks and arepas from Caracas, and then pop around the corner, pick up that kimchi grilled cheese or a green salad, and snag a picnic table before admiring your spread.

A thick, not-too-sweet concoction with lots of torn-up basil leaves inside. Every sip comes with a hit of herby flavor.

Made fresh daily, these muffins are moist, simple, and always a good choice. Don’t let your mind play muffins-are-boring tricks on you.

An open-faced situation with toasty cheddar, tangy kimchi, and an artful scallion sprinkle.

There’s always some sort of green salad available, which is a nice option if it's way too hot for a nearby Rippers burger. On a recent visit, we ate little gems with pickled asparagus and a tahini-ramp dressing.
