Feb. 12: Red Sox in pursuit of Arenado, Bregman
As the Red Sox continue their search for an impact right-handed bat, both Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado and free agent Alex Bregman remain on their radar.

However, Denton hears that the Red Sox’s preference is to sign Bregman. ESPN’s Buster Olney reported Monday that Bregman is “likely” to join either the Red Sox, Cubs or Tigers, with a decision expected soon. MLB Network insider Jon Paul Morosi confirmed that Bregman has received multiyear offers from each of those clubs recently.

Although Arenado and Bregman both play third base, the latter appears to be a better fit for the Red Sox because he can be slotted in at second base. With third baseman Rafael Devers in the fold, it’s unclear how the club would configure its lineup in the case of an Arenado acquisition. Boston could move Devers to first base or designated hitter, though that would require the team to displace either Triston Casas or Masataka Yoshida.
