Breast cancer patient appeals to public for N8m medical treatment

Published 15 hours ago2 minute read

The family of Mrs Julianna Akamagwuna, a businesswoman from Ubulu-Unor in Aniocha-South Local Council, Delta State, has made a desperate appeal for financial assistance as she battles advanced breast cancer.

Mrs Akamagwuna, who has been bedridden for four years, is in dire need of over N8 million to continue her treatment after exhausting all her family’s resources.

Speaking faintly from her hospital bed over the weekend, she said, “I want to live. I believe I still have decades ahead if only people can help me treat the breast cancer that is eating me alive. My family cannot afford the cost. We have sold everything, but all efforts so far have ended in failed treatment.”

Her husband, Mr Augustine Akamagwuna, explained that the illness was first diagnosed in September 2020 at the National Hospital, Abuja. Since then, Mrs Akamagwuna has undergone 13 chemotherapy sessions and 10 radiotherapy sessions, costing millions of naira. However, her condition has worsened, with the cancer spreading to her spinal cord and lungs, rendering surgery impossible.

In February 2025, her health deteriorated further, and doctors recommended a new course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy costing N4.5 million, excluding additional expenses for specialised drugs. Mr Akamagwuna, who lost his job in 2023, said the family has been surviving by God’s grace and can no longer afford the crucial treatments.

Mrs Akamagwuna’s appeal extends to the Delta State Governor, Mr Sheriff Oborevwori; First Lady, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu; Senator Ned Nwoko; corporate organisations; religious bodies; and all well-meaning Nigerians. “Please don’t let me die,” she pleaded. “I know God can use people to help me survive this. The cost of staying alive is far beyond my family’s means.”

Her husband echoed her appeal, adding, “Attached to this plea are medical reports and receipts of expenses incurred. We urgently need support to save my wife’s life. Any assistance will make a tremendous difference.”

The woman can be reached on08134487823, while donations can be made to Zenith Bank. The account name is Okonkwor Augustine Akamagwuna, and the account number is 1002673474.
