He stated this while speaking on Monday, February 24, 2025, during an interview on Arise TV, Daily Trust reports.

“The president’s appointments are not being made because the appointees are Yoruba, but because they are his own boys. Most of the appointments do not even reasonably cover the South-West.
“So people should stop confusing the truth. The appointments are not balanced. Yes, definitely, definitely, right? You cannot argue that, but it’s not a Yoruba thing. Please don’t punish the Yorubas as you have been punishing northerners for the sins of the military.
“Let’s focus on individuals and hold them accountable.
“President Tinubu needs to do something about that. It’s still not too late. He can correct it, but there is palpable anger in the north.”

Legit.ng earlier reported that El-Rufai claimed that he was not rejected by the National Assembly when President Tinubu nominated him as a minister.

Recall that the Senate rejected the confirmation of the former governor as a ministerial nominee over a security report from the Department of State Service (DSS).

El-Rufai claimed that President Tinubu "changed his mind on the nomination." and that he was not rejected by the national assembly.

Also, Legit.ng reported that El-Rufai said he would never join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the leading opposition has collapsed.

He said he had decided long ago that he could not join the PDP. According to him, PDP has become the worst. However, he does not rule out leaving the APC.

He said he would look for another political platform to join if the APC refuses to return to its founding principles and progressive values.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that El-Rufai expressed indifference about President Tinubu's administration retaining government in the 2027 election.

He said he does not know yet whether he will support Tinubu in 2027. According to him, he will consult widely before making such a decision.

He said he also consulted the APC stakeholders in Kaduna and former President Buhari before backing Tinubu in 2023. He said Kaduna APC decided to support Tinubu because he had the best chance of winning the general election while Buhari simply told them to vote their conscience.
