Dindigul: A 12-year-old boy died while three others were injured after a tyre of the car they were travelling in burst, causing the vehicle to hit a tree on the national highway near Vedasandur in Dindigul district on Thursday.

Police said Fajul Haikh, 39, of Poochinayakkanpatti, wife Ameena Begum, 35, and three sons were coming from Salem to Dindigul with Haikh at the wheel. While on the Karur-Dindigul NH, the car was crossing Lakshmananpatti, when one of the front tyres suddenly burst. The vehicle lost control and hit a tree on the roadside. Ameena Begum, Noorul Ameen, 12, and twins Aiman and Ayan, 6, sustained injuries. The injured were taken to Vedasandur govt hospital in an ambulance, but Noorul Ameen died on the way.

The others were referred to Dindigul govt medical college hospital for further treatment after receiving first aid. Vedasandur police were investigating.
