The third edition of (BH Style Icons S3) witnessed a lively and insightful panel discussion titled “The Iconic Avatars: Boon or Curse?” on June 5, 2025, at JW Marriott, Juhu. Featuring actors Ishwak Singh, Radhikka Madan, Chitrangda Singh, Nushrratt Bharuccha, and Abhishek Banerjee, the panel explored the challenges and advantages of being associated with memorable on-screen characters.

Bollywood Hungama Style Icons Summit and Awards 2025: Nushrratt Bharuccha recalls sending video of her cleaning floor to get Khilauna; says, “Director said, ‘Laal saadi mein naachti ho, pochha kaise maarogi?’”

Speaking candidly about being typecast, Nushrratt Bharuccha reflected on how her early image continues to shape how people perceive her. “Over the years, one of the questions I was often asked was: ‘Your Pyaar Ka Punchnama image is so strong, we can’t see you in other roles.’ And I never understood that,” she said.

Abhishek Banerjee, her Khilona co-star, quickly jumped in to praise her work. “You were so wonderful in Chhorii. If people say that, they should see that performance of yours,” he noted.

Building on Banerjee’s observation, Bharuccha recounted an experience from the sets of Khilona, where even the film’s director doubted her suitability for a grounded character. “He told me, ‘Yaar, aap toh laal saadi pehen kar ‘Dil Chori’ par naachte ho, aap kahan floor par pochha maaroge?’ I had to send him a video of me actually cleaning the floor at home to convince him. I told him, ‘Sir, haan, main farsh saaf kar sakti hoon.’”

The actor went on to raise a larger question about audience and industry perceptions. “Why can’t I be a red-saree-clad dancing girl and also the lead character of a serious film? You have to trust me as an actor. More than me, I think it’s the audience and makers whose perceptions need to change first. Let’s go beyond this and give an actor a chance to explore creatively.”
