Black Stars budget accountability rests with Sports Ministry, not GFA - Oduro Sarfo responds to Mahama

The Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association, Nana Oduro Sarfo, has responded to President John Mahama's statement about holding the football governing body accountable for the Black Stars' budget, insisting that the "President has been misled."

Speaking on the floor of Parliament during Thursday's State of the Nation Address, President Mahama signaled an end to the era of “secrecy” regarding how much the government spends on national teams.

His Excellency further charged the Sports Ministry with holding the FA accountable for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers next month.

“The President has been misled in making that statement,” Sarfo said in an interview with Connect 97.1 FM.

“The GFA does not spend on the Black Stars. The FA submits the budget for approval, and once approved, the Ministry handles all financial matters."

Ghana will face Chad in Accra on March 21, before locking horns with Madagascar in Morocco on March 24, 2025 for next year's global showpiece.
