Former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed his support for Tottenham Hotspur after the club’s Europa League victory over Manchester United, sparking surprise among Ghanaians.
Following Spurs’ 1-0 win in Bilbao, Dr Bawumia took to social media to celebrate, posting:
“Yeeeees! Glory, Glory @SpursOfficial. Congratulations to us, all Spurs fans.”
The declaration came as a surprise to many Ghanaians, some of whom had no idea their former Vice President had been quietly enduring the emotional rollercoaster that comes with supporting Spurs.
In a country where allegiances to clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea dominate public football discourse, Dr Bawumia’s support for Tottenham—often the subject of football banter—raised eyebrows and a few amused reactions online.
“Never seen a Ghanaian Hotspurs fan my whole life,” one user joked.

Still, the post has endeared him to some fans, with a few Spurs supporters welcoming the former Vice President to the public wing of the fan base after what appears to have been years in stealth mode.
Tottenham’s triumph brought an end to their 16-year wait for silverware. For Dr Bawumia and millions of long-suffering fans worldwide, it was a moment worth celebrating—even if it meant finally revealing their true colours.
