Jan. 28—Hold on to your hats: A wind advisory will be in effect throughout much of Maryland from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

West winds of about 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected in central, north central, northeast, and northern Maryland, as well as Washington and northern Virginia, according to the National Weather Service. The gusts at BWI Marshall Airport are predicted to peak around 46 mph.

Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects, the weather service said, and tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages might result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, according to the advisory.

Other than the wind, Wednesday should be one of the mildest days in recent memory with highs reaching around 51 degrees under mostly sunny skies, the weather service said. The evening should remain clear with a low near 27 and west wind 7 to 16 mph, gusting up to 36 mph.

Thursday is expected to be cooler: sunny, with a high around 43 and northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming south in the afternoon. There's a 40% chance of rain starting at 1 a.m. Friday.

Rain is likely to stay in the region the rest of Friday with a 90% chance of precipitation during the day and a high near 54. The wet weather should stick around in the evening with a low around 33.

The sun is expected to shine again Saturday, but it's predicted to be colder with a high near 41. The evening forecast is cloudy with a low around 25.

Sunday will also probably be cloudy with a high near 41 and low around 35. Warmer temperatures reaching the low 50s under partly sunny skies are expected Monday. Tuesday is predicted to be cooler again, with a high near 41.
