The first pigeon was eventually captured by a Delta baggage handler, but as the plane began taxiing for takeoff, a second pigeon emerged, causing further disruption. A passenger attempted to catch the bird using his jacket, as shown in a video shared by passenger on Instagram. The flight returned to the gate once more, where the second pigeon was safely removed by ground crew.

The flight was delayed by 56 minutes due to the unexpected avian passengers. Delta Airlines issued an apology for the delay, stating, "We appreciate the careful actions of our people and our customers to safely remove two birds from the aircraft prior to departure."

Despite the unusual situation, the Airbus A220, carrying 119 passengers and five crew members, eventually departed and landed safely in Madison. Caw humorously speculated that the pigeons might have been seeking snacks, unaware that the short flight offered no beverage service.
