AZ have reportedly 'scared off' Ajax with high demands for a potential transfer of the promising Kees Smit.

ESPN reported that after Ajax inquired about the 19-year-old Smit, AZ responded with an asking price of "at least €15 million" as they see the talented midfielder as an undisputed starter in the upcoming season. Ajax, who said they were "seriously interested" in Smit and would pay "millions" for him, got scared off by AZ's high demands.

On Monday, Smit, who's at the Under-19 European Championships with the Netherlands, was asked about Ajax's interest and simply replied: "My future lies with AZ."

Kees Smit debuted for AZ last season in the UEFA Europa League group stage match against Turkish giants Fenerbahce and immediately impressed with a goal and an assist in AZ's 3-1 win. The young talent has been one of the standout players at the Under-19 European Championships in Romania, scoring three goals in as many matches for a soaring Netherlands side.
