The A380’s tenure on the Perth-Doha route has been substantial. It was reintroduced in late 2022 following a pandemic-era pause that began in early 2020. However, the operating environment has shifted once again. On Wednesday, June 25, Qatar Airways will replace the Airbus A380 on its Perth route with the more versatile Boeing 777 aircraft. This change coincides with the official launch of Virgin Australia’s own Perth–Doha route, which, although marketed under the Virgin brand, will be fully operated by Qatar Airways. This includes the provision of the aircraft, crew, and onboard services such as catering and inflight entertainment.

With two daily services now available — Qatar Airways’ flight QR901 and Virgin Australia’s VA21 — the total seat offering on this route has risen sharply.
