It was reported that the meeting, presided over by Mark, is centred on a strategic decision, whether to collapse their structures into a broader 2027 coalition or remain within the PDP, ahead of the 2027 general election.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, and former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido are currently in a meeting with other top figures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja.

The meeting, taking place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, is part of an ongoing series of consultations as the opposition begins to shape what insiders describe as a coalition platform aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

Also present at the gathering are former PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus; ex-Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), and Sam Egwu (Ebonyi), according to The PUNCH.

It was reported that the meeting, presided over by Mark, is centred on a strategic decision, whether to collapse their structures into a broader 2027 coalition or remain within the PDP, ahead of the 2027 general election.

The opposition party commenced its 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the party's national secretariat in Abuja on Monday.

This was despite internal divisions and disagreements over the meeting's legitimacy.

According to Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, Deputy National Chairman (South), the meeting would proceed as scheduled, citing Section 31(3) of the PDP Constitution, which made the meeting date binding on all party organs and members.

"By virtue of Section 31(3) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017), the Monday, June 30, 2025 date for the 100th NEC meeting is binding on all Organs and members," Arapaja emphasised.

However, a faction of the party loyal to Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, including ex-Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike and some governors, has backed the return of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary and the postponement of the NEC meeting.

On Monday, a heavy security presence was reported at the PDP secretariat in Abuja, allegedly to prevent a proposed Expanded National Caucus meeting.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the NEC meeting would focus on party activities, including preparations for the National Convention, to put an end to the crisis in the party.
