Astronomer CEO Suspeded Over Viral Coldplay Concert Clip Embarassment
A brief, unexpected moment at a Coldplay concert has triggered a social media storm—and major consequences at a U.S. tech company. Astronomer, a data tech firm based in the U.S., has placed its CEO, Andy Byron, on leave after a viral video captured an intimate moment between two concertgoers, rumored to be high-ranking company executives. The clip, which first appeared on the jumbotron during the band’s show in Boston on Wednesday night, shows a man and woman swaying together with their arms around each other. As their faces are broadcast to the crowd, they suddenly duck and hide from the camera, sparking widespread curiosity.
The moment took an even more intriguing turn when Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin quipped, “Either they’re having an affair, or they’re just very shy.” That remark, combined with the couple’s reaction, only added fuel to the online fire.
Within hours, the video made its way from TikTok to nearly every major social media platform, racking up millions of views. Memes followed. So did rampant speculation.
By Friday evening, the whispers had reached a boiling point. Astronomer released a statement on X (formerly Twitter), confirming that CEO Andy Byron had been placed on leave as the company launched a formal internal investigation. The statement, while not directly referencing the video, emphasized the company’s commitment to integrity and accountability.
“Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability,” the statement read. “The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly.”

In the interim, co-founder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy has stepped in as acting CEO.
Though many online believe the man in the video to be Byron, who joined Astronomer in July 2023, he has not confirmed his identity. The woman, widely identified by internet sleuths as Kristin Cabot—Astronomer’s Chief People Officer since November 2024—has also not commented. The BBC noted it has not been able to independently verify the identities of either person.
Adding to the confusion, fake statements attributed to Byron began circulating online Thursday. Astronomer addressed this directly, stating that Byron has not released any personal comments and that no other employees were involved in the incident.
