An armed robber has been jailed 18 years in Wa
A notorious armed robber, Adinan Mahmoud, alias "Okra," has been convicted and sentenced to 18 years in prison by the Wa Circuit Court.
The Upper West Regional Police Command confirmed the conviction in a statement issued on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
"The Upper West Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of a notorious armed robber, Adinan Mahmoud, alias Okra, who was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Wa Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Jonathan Avogo, on Monday, June 3, 2025," the statement noted.
According to the police, the convict was arrested through an intelligence-led operation.
"The convict was arrested on Saturday, May 31, 2025, by the Police following an intelligence-led operation conducted by the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate. He had been on the police wanted list for a series of robberies and other violent crimes within the region," the statement added.
It further disclosed that two of his accomplices were also arrested during the operation.
The 25-year-old, who had long evaded arrest, was finally apprehended at his hideout in Sandemuni, a suburb of Wa.
He pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit a crime, attempted robbery, and robbery during his appearance before His Honour Jonathan Avogo on Monday, June 2, 2025.
