Arcade wrassin' classic WWF Wrestlefest is coming to home arcade cabinets

Published 19 hours ago2 minute read

I have likely spent more time playing pro wrestling games than I have spent watching wrestling, and I'm a 50-year-old lifelong fan. WWF Wrestlefest, released in 1991, is one of the great ones. Had I invested all the quarters I put into that game, I'd probably be retired now. Toy Book is reporting that Basic Fun is bringing an arcade cabinet of the classic to homes later this year.

The game featured two modes. Royal Rumble played just like the company's annual event in which two wrestlers start a battle royal, with another added every 90 seconds until only one is left standing. Main Event was a tag team tournament in which your tandem earned the right to fight the WWE Tag Team Champions, the Legion of Doom. If you grew up watching them only in WCW, you'd know them as the Road Warriors.

The game's colorful cast includes Hulk Hogan, Mr. Perfect, and Jake The Snake Roberts. Whoever selected them did a bang up job of picking the characters who were perfect for a video game. It's not just a great arcade brawler, but an awesome time capsule of early 90s pro wrestling.

Basic Fun is best known for handheld arcade games and redos of classic toys, but are now stepping into the home arcade game market. Some of their games will be collections, while others such as Wrestlefest will only contain a single game.

The company uses original game code, cabinet designs, and arcade controls. They haven't listed a price yet, but their other offerings range from $180-600.
