Aquebogue woman hits $1 million second prize in Powerball game, lottery officials say
One lucky Long Island woman is having anything but a cruel summer, thanks to the New York Lottery.
Melissa Messina, of Aquebogue, collected a $1 million prize on Tuesday for matching the first five numbers drawn in the March 26 Powerball game.
The winning numbers were: 05 20 29 39 53; the Powerball was 06.
Messina received a one-time lump sum payment totaling $651,000 after required withholdings, the New York Lottery website said.
She purchased the ticket at Kings Hampton Bays C-Store on West Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays. It was the only winning ticket in that drawing, the lottery announced.
Messina’s win comes about two months after a Central Islip woman collected a $1 million prize in the Holiday Cash scratch-off game.
The winning numbers for the Powerball game are drawn from a field of 1 to 69. The red Powerball is drawn from a separate field of 1 to 26. The Powerball drawing is televised every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.
Winning draw game tickets expire one year from the date of the draw, the lottery website said.
