APC nonexistent in Anambra, no threat to Soludo's reelection, says APGA
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sly Ezeokenwa, has dismissed the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s chances in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State, stating that the party “does not exist anywhere” in the state.
Ezeokenwa, who appeared on The Morning Brief on Wednesday, said the incumbent APGA-led administration under Governor Chukwuma Soludo had gained broad public support, making the party’s re-election bid a formality rather than a contest.
“Anambra people can say, ‘We’ve never had it this good in just three years by any elected officials in the past.’ That is the consensus opinion on the streets of Anambra,” Ezeokenwa said. “And in that context, I can tell you, well, there is no contest really.”
The APGA chairman claimed that the electorate in the South-East state are content with the pace of development under Soludo’s administration, and see no compelling reason to support a change in political leadership.
Ezeokenwa’s comments follow the release of the final list of candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2 November election.
He argued that despite the presence of multiple candidates, APGA remains the dominant political force in the state due to its consistent governance track record since 2006.
“On the streets of Anambra, the general opinion is clear, and that is that the state is still very much with APGA,” he said. “They have not seen any reason to change the trajectory of development that they have witnessed from 2006 to date.”
Ezeokenwa added that the party’s ideology of inclusive governance, summed up in its motto “leaving no one behind”, continues to resonate strongly with the electorate.
“It appears in Anambra we are tilting towards a consensus candidate, because there is a consensus of opinion, given the massive and excellent performance of the incumbent and APGA-driven ideology,” he said
With official campaigns set to begin in the coming months, APGA has expressed confidence in retaining the governorship seat, citing widespread satisfaction with its development agenda and leadership.
