Andor season 2 is set to feature the return of a key Star Wars location. One of the first moons to be featured in the entire franchise, Yavin 4 was one of the Rebellion's first bases at the beginning of their war with the Galactic Empire. Now, it looks as though Andor may show how the Alliance chose the location ahead of the events of Rogue One and A New Hope.

Andor season 2 will have 12 episodes, consisting of four three-episode arcs with time jumps in between. Each arc will cover a single year leading up to the events of Rogue One. To that end, the first trailer for Andor season 2 confirms that Yavin 4 will indeed be featured in one more of these arcs as the Rebel Alliance starts to truly form in the Star Wars timeline.

According to the established canon, various Rebel cells first came together in 2BBY after an impassioned rallying speech from Mon Mothma. This was in orbit above Dantooine, and the world below soon became the site of the first official headquarters for the Rebel Alliance. However, the eventual discovery of an Imperial tracking device resulted in the Rebellion's mass evacuation from the world (hence Leia giving up the deserted base to Tarkin in A New Hope).

In 1BBY, the decision was made to move Rebellion High Command to Yavin 4. As seen in both Rogue One and A New Hope, the jungle-covered moon is home to various temples built by the ancient Massassi tribes that were perfect for housing the Rebels' ships and equipment. As such, Andor season 2 now has the opportunity to show how Yavin was discovered and chosen over countless other worlds in the Star Wars galaxy.

Before High Command's move to Yavin 4, the moon was already the base for General Jan Dodonna's Massassi Group (named after the tribes), one of the largest single Rebel cells ahead of the Alliance's official formation. As such, this likely played a hand in why the moon was chosen as the Rebellion's new base. That said, it's going to be fascinating to see if Cassian Andor had any hand in the decision to move the entire Alliance to Yavin, or potentially played a part in the moon's discovery as a prime Rebel base.
