Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday nabbed a former Chief Financial Officer of the Nigerian National Petroluem Corporation, NNPC Limited, Umar Ajiya Isa.

It was learnt that the former Managing Director of the Warri Refinery, Jimoh Olasunkanmi, was also arrested and is presently in the anti-graft agency custody in connection with alleged $7.2billion fraud.

A senior official at the anti-graft agency confided in our correspondent that the former NNPCL’s chiefs were arrested for the alleged mismanagement of the fund released for the rehabiliation of the Kaduna, Warri and Port Harcourt Refineries.

Several phones calls to the spokesman of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale went unanswered and he was yet to respond to a text message sent to him for official reaction on the incident.

Daily Trust reports that Ajiya, as the CFO,  was in charge of release of funds for the Turn Around Maintenance of the three Refineries and all the key officials involved in the maintenance.

Another EFCC source also told Daily Trust that other officials involved in other key NNPC Projects are being investigated for alleged abuse of office,  corruption, diversion of funds and kickbacks from contractors.

The affected individuals, according to the EFCC source, include the current MD of Warri Refinery, Tunde Bakare; a former MD of Port Harcourt Refinery, Ahmed Adamu Dikko and another former MD of Port Harcourt Refinery, Ibrahim Monday Onoja.
