Alicesoft Dungeon RPG 'Yoru ga Kuru! Square of the Moon Remastered' Shares Opening Movie Ahead of May Release

Published 1 day ago2 minute read

Developer Alicesoft and publisher Kagura Games have released a new video for Yoru ga Kuru! Square of the Moon Remastered, the updated version of the classic dungeon-crawling visual novel originally launched in 2001. The remaster is set to release on PC via Steam on May 30, 2025.

The trailer showcases the game’s opening video, highlighting Ryou Hamura, an ordinary student living in the city of Otsuna, who finds his life upended after encountering supernatural threats under the ominous glow of a mysterious blue moon, known as the “True Moon.” He’s quickly pulled into an escalating conflict by Izumi Kagura, a red-eyed classmate who urges him to join her in battle. Together with other members of their school’s Astronomy Club, the duo begins hunting down shadowy creatures called Light Hunters that have begun stirring chaos across the city.

Yoru ga Kuru! blends visual novel storytelling with dungeon-crawling RPG mechanics. Players interact with a colorful cast through day-to-day narrative sequences and then descend into layered dungeons, known as the Rift, by night. Turn-based battles allow for strategic party setup and skill usage, with an emphasis on resource management and combat synergy. The remaster includes two modes: a Classic Mode that mirrors the original gameplay style and a Modern Mode offering streamlined mechanics.

Beyond combat, the game features weapon crafting, skill allocation, and multiple story paths, offering a range of choices and endings. The game also boasts a newly arranged soundtrack from composer Shade, alongside full voice acting, including a performance by Yui Sakakibara as Kyouka.

Originally developed by Alicesoft, Yoru ga Kuru! earned a cult following in Japan for its eerie atmosphere, genre-mixing gameplay, and mature storytelling. The remastered version aims to modernize the experience while preserving the original’s tone and structure. Kagura Games is publishing the title globally with support for English and other languages, making it widely accessible for the first time.
