Ojwang was found dead in a pool of blood inside a cell at the station, with investigations revealing he was severely assaulted, allegedly by inmates hired for the attack.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) told the court that Talaam, who had initially claimed to have been off duty on the night of the incident, was in constant communication with individuals within and outside the police station immediately before, during, and after the crime.
IPOA suspects these communications were crucial in planning the assault and updating those involved on its progress and outcome.

Investigators further revealed that Talaam is suspected of having coordinated a deliberate cover-up by tampering with the station’s CCTV surveillance system to conceal what transpired on the night of June 7 to June 8, 2025.
Preliminary findings indicate that the CCTV system was tampered with in an attempt to mislead any subsequent investigations into the blogger's death.

During the event, Talaam appeared visibly disturbed throughout the court session.
Photographs captured him seated with a troubled expression, sometimes looking down in distress and at other times staring blankly, seemingly overwhelmed by the situation.

Despite the serious accusations in a case that has sparked national outrage, Talaam pledged to remain cooperative and assist IPOA with the ongoing investigations.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja interdicted the OCS alongside five other officers as IPOA launched investigations following the gruesome murder that occurred at his station.

Why did Eliud Lagat step aside?
In other news, Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, accused of directing Ojwang's arrest, has temporarily stepped aside to allow for an independent investigation into the blogger's murder.
Lagat said he made the decision in good faith and in recognition of his responsibility to uphold integrity and accountability.
Further, he expressed his deep sympathy to Ojwang’s family and pledged to fully cooperate with the ongoing probe.
