Speaking at the Senate on Wednesday, June 11, IPOA Deputy Chairperson Ann Wanjiku disclosed that they have found evidence to rule out the earlier report by police that Ojwang took his own life.

According to Wanjiku, the IPOA investigating team had established that the CCTV system at the office of the Central Police Station OCS had been tampered with.

“The CCTV systems located at Central Police Station OCS' office had been interfered with. Preliminary investigations into Albert Ojwang's death in custody "rule out the theory of taking own life," Wanjiku said.

The revelation by the IPOA attracted uproar from senators, the majority of whom wanted to know the person who tampered with the CCTV footage at the Central Police Station.

Nyamira senator Okongo Omogeni asked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to provide CCTV footage detailing Ojwang's movement from Homa Bay to Central Police Station.

"I believe you have CCTV cameras. If we want to connect the events before he ended up at Central Police Station, can we get access to the CCTV footage that tracks the movement of this young man all the way to Central Police Station? So that to know if he was taken to Central dead or alive," Omogeni said.

Kitui senator Enock Wambua said, "IG Kanja, who interfered with the CCTV footage at the Central Police Station on the night that Albert was murdered? And you cannot tell us that you don't know, because there will be a problem."

Meanwhile, Inspector General Douglas Kanja told the Senate that the blogger arrived safely in Nairobi from Homa Bay, where he was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

According to Kanja, Ojwang was booked at Nairobi Central Police Station after the OCS confirmed that he was in good health condition

Kanja said Ojwang contacted his wife at 9:24pm, 11 minutes before his booking, to confirm he had reached Nairobi.

The police chief stated that officers stopped in Narok for refreshments, where Ojwang was given water, soda, and a biscuit.
