The Federal Government has inaugurated the Inter-Ministerial Committee for the 2025 Democracy Day celebration, assigning it the responsibility of organising a memorable and impactful national event.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, was appointed as the chairman of the committee.

The proposed activities lined up for the 2025 Democracy Day celebration are World Press Briefing on Friday,  June 6; special Juma’at service on Friday, June 6, church service on Sunday, June 8, youth programme to be held on Tuesday, June 9, and public lecture slated for Wednesday, June 11.

There will be a presidential broadcast alongside the parade on Thursday, June 12.

In a statement on Thursday by the Director of Information, OSGF, Segun Imohiosen, Akume, represented by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, described the celebration as an important occasion to honour the legacy of Nigeria’s democratic heroes and reflect on the nation’s journey from military rule to democratic governance.

He noted that Democracy Day was not only a time of remembrance but also an opportunity for the government to present its achievements to the Nigerian people and reaffirm its commitment to democratic ideals.

Akume urged members of the committee to work in synergy with the administration of President Bola Tinubu in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Other members of the committee, according to the statement, are: Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Bagudu; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; and Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Others were Special Adviser to the President, Policy and Coordination: Hadiza Bala-Usman; Inspector-General of Police: Kayode Egbetokun; Director-General, Department of State Services, Adeola Ajayi; Commander, Guards Brigade: Brig Gen Adebisi Onasanya; Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, OSGF: Dr Nnamdi Mbaeri; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health: Kachollom Daju; and Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office (OSGF) – Member/Secretary: Nadungu Gagare.
