Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has sworn in the newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen of the 18 councils in the state. Aiyedatiwa, while urging the council bosses to be dedicated to serving the people at the grassroots, reiterated his commitment to delivering on the manifesto of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the governor, during the inauguration held at the International Event Centre (The Dome), Akure, the state capital, the 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) are a creation of law, and they have come to stay.
He said: “Let us join hands to build a brighter future for the people. Together, we can achieve greatness. Side by side, we will deliver the dividends of good governance that our people deserve. I look forward to working closely with each and every one of you to achieve this noble goal.
“Essentially, you have the challenge to hit the ground running. The expectations of the people are very high, and you cannot afford to disappoint them. To whom much is given, much is expected. As servant-leaders, you must be prepared to innovate and be driven by passion for the welfare and prosperity of the people.”
“You must be deliberate about the development of your local councils. In discharging your duties, you must ensure collaboration and synergy with the legislative councils, as well as the career public servants, and be accountable to the people in whom sovereignty resides. Please listen to the voices of your people, feel their pains, and respond to their needs appropriately.
“Again, let me reiterate that the 33 LCDAs have come to stay. They are a creation of law, to further bring government closer to the people of Ondo State. We have a collective duty to ensure their survival. At all times, they must enjoy mutual trust and inclusivity from the parent local councils.”
Aiyedatiwa, who commended the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) for conducting a peaceful and credible election, hailed the outgoing transition committee chairmen for holding forth in their respective councils.
