Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has praised the Executive Director of Corporate Services at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Sunday Ifedayo Abegunde, for his outstanding contributions to the development of the state.

The commendation came during the conferment of the chieftaincy title of ‘Asiwaju of Akure Kingdom’ on Abegunde by the Deji of Akureland, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi.

The event, held over the weekend, also marked Chief Abegunde’s 70th birthday and was attended by prominent dignitaries including the Minister of Youth Development, Hon. Ayodele Olawande, Senator Jide Ipinsagba representing Ondo North, and Senator Adegbonmire from Ondo Central.

In his remarks, Governor Aiyedatiwa applauded Abegunde’s efforts in attracting key developmental projects to the Niger Delta and described him as a man deeply committed to human capacity development and the progress of his community.

He added that the people of Ondo State are proud of Abegunde, who has remained a strong voice in national politics and a champion of grassroots empowerment.

“Abegunde has consistently made meaningful contributions to the development of our people and communities. Ondo State is proud of its achievements and unwavering commitment,” the governor said.

He further described Abegunde as a pillar of support with his political experience both at the national and state level, saying his efforts are seen as crucial in achieving the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ President Bola Tinubu in revamping the Niger Delta region.

Remarking, Abegunde reiterated his commitment to attracting life-changing and community projects that would speed up development and growth in the state.

He emphasised the importance of developing manpower and empowering the youth for a brighter future.

The former House of Representatives member also affirmed his intention to leverage his experience to foster unity and progress within communities in Akure Kingdom.

“I am committed to helping our people and supporting those in need. We must unite and collaborate on community development,” Abegunde said

The NDDC Director expressed gratitude to God for the gift of life and appreciated his family and political allies for their support over the years.

He, however, advised the youth in the country to learn from his trajectory in life, be law-abiding, and show commitment to the development of their community and the country.

Others who attended the epoch-event included the Chairman of the Ondo State Chapter of the APC, Ade Adetimehin, former Secretary to the State Government Oladunni Odu, and representatives from NDDC.

Members of the House of Representatives, including Okunjimi Odimayo, Timilehin Adelegbe, and Festus Akingbaso, were present, alongside the Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Olamide Oladiji.
