Air India has expanded its self-check-in and baggage-drop service to 19 international destinations across Europe, the UK, and Canada. This move enhances the airline’s digital offerings for outbound passengers from India, streamlining the airport experience and reducing counter queues. The initiative builds on earlier rollouts across the US and Australia and aligns with Air India’s broader technology-led transformation.

Air India has extended its integrated self-check-in and baggage-drop facility to passengers travelling from India to destinations across Europe, the United Kingdom, and Canada. With this development, the service now covers 19 international airports, furthering the airline’s efforts to modernise passenger experience through digitisation.

Air India had previously introduced these self-service options for flights to the United States and Australia, as well as at key domestic airports. The expanded rollout includes major hubs such as London Heathrow and Gatwick, Birmingham, Paris, Vienna, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Milan, Zurich, Toronto, and Vancouver.

The facility allows passengers to independently print boarding passes and baggage tags, and deposit their luggage without the need to queue at check-in counters. Travellers may also use kiosks to select or purchase preferred seating and update contact or frequent flyer information. This is aimed at reducing congestion at check-in areas and supporting smoother passenger movement through airports.

This digital push complements other recent customer-focused initiatives from the airline, including Premium Lobbies for business and premium economy flyers, Family Assistance Counters at Delhi Airport, and city-side check-in services at Delhi and Hyderabad. The combined measures are contributing to improvements in customer satisfaction indicators, according to internal Net Promoter Score (NPS) data.

Air India, part of the Tata Group since 2022, is currently undergoing a comprehensive five-year transformation programme, Vihaan.AI. As part of this overhaul, the airline has placed a record aircraft order, opened a major aviation training academy, and is in the process of retrofitting its existing fleet. A new flying school and greenfield maintenance base are also in development, further signalling Air India’s intent to emerge as a global carrier with modern infrastructure and systems.
