AIB Commissioner undertakes familiarisation visit to Prempeh I International Airport
The visit forms part of the Bureau's efforts to assess and strengthen the aviation sector
In a concerted effort to bolster aviation safety standards and ensure strict compliance with preventive protocols, the Commissioner of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB), John M.K. Wumborti, has embarked on a familiarisation visit to the Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi.
The visit, which took place earlier this week, forms part of the Bureau’s strategic agenda to deepen collaboration with key aviation stakeholders and reinforce safety oversight at the nation’s airports.
John Wumborti was warmly received by the airport’s management team, led by the Head of Regional Airports South, Mr. Maxwell Yeboah, and was taken on a comprehensive tour of the facility.
During the engagement, the Commissioner inspected critical safety installations, operational zones, emergency response systems, and airside infrastructure, with a focus on assessing the airport’s adherence to the AIB's prescribed safety and preventive measures.
Addressing the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) team and other officers, Wumborti emphasised the importance of fostering a proactive safety culture within Ghana’s aviation ecosystem.
“Our mandate as a Bureau is not just to investigate accidents and incidents after they occur, but more importantly, to prevent them. This visit is to ensure that protocols are not only in place but are actively being implemented to safeguard lives and assets,” he stated.
He commended the airport authorities for their efforts in maintaining high safety standards and urged continuous vigilance and regular training to keep pace with global best practices.
Maxwell Yeboah, Head of Regional Airports South, expressed his appreciation for the visit, noting that such periodic engagements are instrumental in deepening collaboration between stakeholders.
John Wumborti’s visit marks the beginning of a nationwide airport assessment tour by the Bureau, aimed at enhancing safety awareness and fostering a resilient aviation safety culture across the country.
He reaffirmed the AIB’s commitment to its core mandate of promoting a safe, secure, and efficient air transport system through proactive oversight, thorough investigation, and preventive action.
