Agona West NPP ready to reclaim power in 2028 - Chairman
Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, Agona West New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman, is confident the party is reorganizing its grassroots to recapture power in the 2028 elections.
Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of an ultra-modern party office at Agona Nyakrom in the Central Region, Alhaji Tanko emphasized that the initiative marks a fresh start for rebuilding the party from the polling station level.
He said, “The Agona Nyakrom area, with about 15 electoral areas, is key to spreading the message of renewal and reigniting the enthusiasm of our supporters.”
According to him, the party has begun intensive preparations from the polling station to constituency levels, with the aim of restoring confidence among supporters following the defeat in the 2024 elections.
Alhaji Tanko revealed that broader consultations are ongoing with constituency executives, the Council of Elders, and party patrons to re-integrate expelled members who violated party rules during the 2024 elections. This follows an amnesty announced by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to foster reconciliation and unity.
He urged all party supporters to set aside political differences and personal interests to help rebuild a formidable NPP that can win the trust of the Ghanaian electorate.
Kwame Agyei, the Research and Elections Officer for the constituency, said the decision to build a party office stemmed from concerns raised at a meeting in Agona Swedru over growing divisions. He noted that the new office would serve communities including Agona Nkum, Ahamadonko, Kwaman, Upper and Lower Bobikuma, among others.
Otoo Yawson, a party executive and 2024 parliamentary primary contestant, commended the executives for their vision and commitment. He emphasized the need for party unity and called on members at all levels to watch their utterances and avoid actions that breed division.
“If all goes well with the reorganization process, I will contest again in the 2028 elections,” Yawson added.
He also advised presidential aspirants and their campaign teams to promote peace and avoid creating disaffection within the party.
Nana Akuffo IV, Omankrado of Agona Nyakrom, who represented Omanhene Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku X, lauded the party’s initiative, stating that unity was key to making the NPP attractive to both members and floating voters.
Samuel Ato Kum, Constituency Secretary, urged members to take advantage of the new office to revive the party’s fortunes. He called for an end to blame games and encouraged collective efforts to build a resilient party at the grassroots and constituency levels.
