Back in October 2020, adidas dropped its Adilette Clog — taking the brand’s cult-favorite Adilette Slides and making them even more wearable, protective, and versatile with a closed-toe silhouette. Now, banking on both the current clog obsession and the speed at which recovery footwear flies off shelves, adidas has unveiled a 2.0 version of its famed clog, this time boasting laces, a smoother toe shell, and a removable strap that make it a hybrid of the sporty and the stylish. Best of all, it’s available in one of the trendiest colors for summer 2025: butter yellow.
Sure, the Adilette Clog 2.0 might not be the most luxurious clog style on the market, but adidas isn’t seeking to rival the designer shoe market. Consider the new Adilette Clog to be a fun, fresh spin on beach-ready summer shoes that can take you from the pool to the cabana to the bar with ample support and durability. The shoe’s upper, lining, and outsole are synthetic, after all, and therefore easy to wipe clean. Unlike a comparable waterproof sandal, the Adilette Clog 2.0’s rounded, closed toe also serves as an effective barrier between your toes and the elements: without sacrificing the breathability that’s necessary to beat the summer heat.
“These are the ideal shoes to wear while you walk your dog or run errands. I bought my partner the original version a few years ago because I absolutely loved how the Three Stripe detailing and white colorway elevated the rubber clog design that has historically skewed super casual. Now, the 2.0 clog in butter yellow (and with laces!) takes the summer staple to stylish new heights, with all the benefits of the OG version plus the versatility that makes it great for any weekend adventure.” — WWD and Footwear News Commerce Director Adam Mansuroglu
It’s rare for a new shoe release to sit at the exact intersection between three or more trends in the industry, but adidas’ Adilette Clog 2.0 is that rare bird. As noted previously, people are very much into the ’70s-style clog silhouette right now (just reference the Simone Rocha x Crocs collab’s incredibly successful third installment). Waterproof materials also appear to be the “It” thing in footwear this summer; specifically, jelly sandals crafted from PVC or TPU, like those seen in Chloé’s spring 2025 runway collection, prove that durable, flexible, weather-resistant shoe styles aren’t just meant for the water park or pool. Furthermore, in 2025, recovery footwear is top of mind for professional athletes and the casually active alike. Nike’s ReactX Rejuven8 shoe keeps selling out; the Nike x Hyperice Hyperboot has been hyped up by Olympians like Sha’Carri Richardson; and the best-selling, under-$25 Bronax pillow slipper from Amazon is racking up more and more five-star reviews this season. While not directly advertised as a post-workout recovery shoe, the Adilette Clog 2.0’s roominess, cushioning, and breathability make it a top qualifier.
We have a good feeling (supported by evidence, nonetheless) that this fresh clog will colloquially “pop off” very soon, meaning now is the time to score it before inventory depletes. TikTok videos featuring styling inspiration for the adidas Adilette Clog’s inaugural model continue to rake in thousands of views, and, interestingly enough, content creators have already been spotted threading laces through the shoe years back. A simple scroll on the app reveals the black Adilette Clog benefitting from playful Jibbitz and ballerina-inspired ribbon laces, while being effortlessly paired with sports jerseys, baggy shorts, crew socks, and even cardigans with pleated maxi skirts.
Given the fact that butter yellow is the definitive shade of the season (Toteme and Chanel‘s spring collections are proof positive of this, not to mention celebrity style on recent red carpets), the Adilette Clog 2.0 in “Warm Vanilla” is bound to generate even more traction and styling edits alongside spring dresses, midi skirts, quiet luxury coordinates, and other dressy clothing items you wouldn’t expect to be seen anywhere near a rubber clog.
You already know that every movement counts on languid summer days when the rising heat is inversely proportional to your dwindling energy. So, when you’re gearing up to walk around the block, meet friends for weekend drinks, or make your way to a local taco stand after beach-rotting — all while feeling mellowed out by the sun — the fact that you can slip the adidas Adilette Clog 2.0 on and off in a second is a godsend. This is not to say that it’s laceless, though, as the butter-yellow iteration does have black laces threaded through the upper’s holes to make it more sneaker-adjacent, but they’re mere extras that add stylish flair to the shoe’s overall appeal. The most creative of us can easily swap out these out for neon-hued paracord laces instead, and, to pay proper respects to the shoe charm trend, we also encourage dressing up your newest adidas purchase with clips, chains, or the Jibbitz you aren’t using for your Crocs Caged Clog pair.
Will it be a bright, eye-catching shoelace color on your right foot and a pastel one on the left? Or an assortment of your favorite Disney characters, rendered in miniature, adorning the Adilette Clog 2.0? Only time will tell.
