Adeleke Relaxes Curfew in Ifon-Ilobu

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has eased the dusk-to-dawn curfew previously imposed on the Ifon and Ilobu communities, adjusting the restricted hours to 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. daily. This decision follows observations of gradually restored peace in the areas, which had been plagued by incessant communal clashes involving loss of life and property damage. The initial curfew was implemented in response to a crisis that began on January 16, 2025.
According to a statement released by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, Governor Adeleke expressed satisfaction with the progress made towards peace between the communities embroiled in land disputes. While acknowledging that complete peace has not yet been achieved, the Governor is optimistic that it is only a matter of time.
The revised curfew hours, effective from March 2, reduce the period of restricted movement from twelve hours to six. In conjunction with the adjusted curfew, Governor Adeleke has directed that security personnel, including the Nigeria Army, Nigeria Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, maintain continuous surveillance in the affected communities. This is to ensure that the peace being restored is not disrupted.
Governor Adeleke has called on all stakeholders within the communities to cooperate with the state government in its efforts to resolve the underlying issues amicably. He specifically urged the residents, traditional rulers, and other interested parties to use the holy month of Ramadan as a period for prayer, seeking lasting peace and harmony in the region.
The Governor also reiterated a prior warning, stating that any individual or group found instigating or orchestrating further disruptions to the gradually improving peace will face severe legal consequences. The government's stance is firm on maintaining law and order and ensuring that the progress towards peace is not jeopardized.
