The unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the platform for Nigeria’s opposition to oust President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, has suffered a setback.
Daily Trust had reported how the coalition settled for ADC and picked protem leaders.
Wednesday had been selected as the day for unveiling while Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments in Asokoro area of Abuja was chosen as venue.
But in the early hours of Wednesday, the hotel management sent a message to the organisers that its facility was no longer available for the event, an action which fueled suspicion.
A screenshot of the hotel’s message, posted on Wednesday morning by media personality and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dele Momodu, on his Instagram page, read, “Dear Esteemed Patron, Thank you once again for choosing the Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments.
“We sincerely regret to inform you that due to an internal compliance matter that has just come to our attention, we are unable to proceed with hosting your scheduled event.
“We are fully aware that the event is less than 24 hours away, and we deeply apologise for the timing and inconvenience this may cause.”
Momodu, however, said the development will not dampen “the determination of opposition forces who are poised to hotly challenge the ruling party.”
Salihu Lukman, one of the coalition leaders, on behalf of People and Passion Consult Ltd, accused the hotel of breaching a valid contract.
“This is unacceptable. Your management has no right to unilaterally sabotage a contract validly and legally agreed to and fully paid for. You must meet the terms of the contract fully by allowing the event to hold with full compliments of all the services agreed to. This is not negotiable,” Lukman said.
However Daily Trust gathered that the ADC unveiling has been moved to another venue within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
