The visit of one of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2023 governorship aspirants, Mayor Igbokwe to National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Barr. Julius Abure has sparked rumours of his defection to the LP from the PDP.

Igbokwe, popularly known as Don Lulu, The Nation learnt held a closed-door meeting with Abure in Abuja which many opined couldn’t have been unconnected with moves to join the Abure led faction of the Labour Party.

Party sources disclosed that also present at the meeting Abure were the Labour Party’s Vice Chairman for the Southeast, Chief Ceekay Igara, and former member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Kelechi Onwuzuruike.

Many political analysts described the meeting between Abure and Igara as an indicator that they (Abure led faction of LP) may be considering giving Igbokwe the nod to run for the post of governor Abia State on the platform of Labour Party as the crisis in the party remains unresolved.

Mayor Igbokwe, who came second in the 2023 PDP governorship primaries in Abia, has remained a prominent figure in the state’s political and as well as social space with the recent launch of two radio stations that attracted the presence of Nigeria’s Pop music artist, David Adeleke (Davido).

His meeting with the top hierarchy of the Labour Party is being interpreted by observers as a potential move to switch political allegiance.
